SEPTA is the Special Education Parent Teacher Association, providing advocacy, education and support for all exceptional children in the Merrick Elementary School District.
SEPTA serves all three schools (Birch, Chatterton and Levy-Lakeside) and has meetings throughout the school year. There are speakers at most of the meetings and everyone finds these meetings to be extremely informative.
Despite what many individuals believe, our organization is here not only for children in special education. We are here for any child receiving any services: children who receive speech, reading, or language tutoring, physical or occupational therapy, children with medical or allergy issues, children receiving no services. We are here for children with learning difficulties, physical disabilities, children who are gifted and those who might be facing special issues socially or at home within their families. We are here for your child. Your child may not have any special issues whatsoever but may otherwise benefit from your support and involvement in SEPTA, simply as a member of our united school community.
SEPTA Committees include:
Note Pad Sales
District Site Based Committee
Parent workshops
Wilson Reading Program
Homework Workshop
Zach Josephson Memorial Scholarship
